Indian Point is a threat to the American way of life. Over the past few years it has repeatedly had significant safety problems. It reportedly has major sections in which half of the bolts are missing. A worst-case meltdown at Indian Point would require the evacuation of New York City. The country's largest commercial and financial hub would become radioactively toxic. But because it produces so much of New York City's electricity and would cost so much more to decommission, it is much more convenient to keep Indian Point running.
